Elk Bell: SuperFragilistic
It’s a Sunday morning and I’m on a two hour train ride home to see my new nephew. The sky foreshadows things I hope won’t happen, and Elk Bell’s SuperFragilistic offers itself as the soundtrack to at least half of the two hour trip. “Holiday Island” starts the record and my trip. The slow pace matches the pace of this so called “efficient” form of public transportation. Funny that a song about...

Breag Naofa: Breag Naofa
There are some songs you hear and instantly say, “Now, that’s a radio hit.” Then you have other that leave you staring like you’ve seen Bigfoot, Casper and Dracula having a tea party; confused and scared all at once. That feeling never left me as Breag Naofa’s self-titled. And while it may be only four tracks, the album will be 40 minutes of your life, and if you’re into testosterone driven...

Belle Histoire: I Can Tell
Right now I’m sitting in a hallway waiting for my boss to open the door. I get here about an hour before everyone because I can’t stand the sight of most people, okay all the people I work with. I’m counting down the hours until I can gab with my mom about last night’s The Voice and tell her that Jane Smith of Belle Histoire should really be on there. I mean if Dia Frampton, Juliet Simms and ...

Palisades: I’m Not Dying Today
Innocent sounding voice backed by a lot of attitude. Not a teenage girl, but Palisades I’m Not Dying Today. “Disclosure” takes it’s time to get things going and at first you’ll think it’s another record with lyrics masked by clouds of riffs, but it takes a turn. Matt Marshall comes in sounding like he could replace Gaskarth in All Time Low.

Erin Passmore: Downtown
Going from an ensemble to the being a lone act is much like moving into a metropolitan area alone; an exciting force that makes you grow as an individual. Erin Passmore has stepped away from Rah Rah for a second to take on Downtown. And for the indie-rock fans who ved her in the band, never fear because she’s still got indie in her that guides her through her solo adventure.

Viper Creek Club: Hot Lights
Late nights after work, my brain is still swimming from the noise of school children and shrieking defiance. It’s a wonder that I would chose to put on a record that is anything but tranquil. Yet, somehow, I am relaxed in the sounds of heavy synths and in-your-face vocals. I don’t mind imagining the sensation of my sweat pooling off my skin ad dripping to the dance floor under the Hot Lights,...

Silver Snakes: Pictures of a Floating World
One summer night me and a friend sat up till the wee hours of the morning researching Legends of the Hidden Temple. I can imagine the members of Silver Snakes have had many nights like that. And unlike Olmec, these Silver Snakes are all real rock on their new album, Pictures of a Floating World.

Finding Jupiter’s Peter McDonald: Bass-ics of...
Jumping to conclusions can lead you down a slippery slope, and I found myself stuck at the bottom with Finding Jupiter’s resident bass man, Peter McDonald when I just went and assumed he was still hitting the books at Stanford. Instead I learned he was all done with his English major and spending his time writing here and here and doing some freelancing on the side.

Hector of Lost In Society: Warped, Splits and...
Warped fans started planning their summers a few weeks ago as the band announcements started trickling in. Every Wednesday I sit at work and wait by ap.net for the thread and am made to feel ancient when new bands pop up in vampire make-up that I will never get, and assume is a generational thing. But one time my face formed a smile when I saw a familiar name; Lost In Society.

Heart to Heart: Deathproof
Pop quiz: Best way to discover a band? Did you say on some random place on the internet? Well that’s a great answer because you’re reading this, but the better answer is live. Heart to Heart played a show last month with a new favorite of ours at Golden Mixtape, Currents and at first I was intimidated. Nick Zoppo looks like Buddy from Senses Fail’s older brother and performs with as much...
