It’s like my best friend betrayed me. The internet in my apartment went out and we’ll be separated until Friday morning. This would be okay if the only thing I was missing was complaints by friends on Facebook and Twitter, but I use the wonderful web for a living. Today I scrambled up my belongings and headed east to seek refuge at a library that lacked outlets and now a McDonalds, which surprisingly will let you sit for hours with a $1 drink, thanks Ronald. So with a dull connection in hand, I listened to Late Night Beers’ Waking. It has never taken me that long to listen to three songs. They kept cutting in and out and after about an hour and a half, I finally got through this indie-emo-dreamsical album.

Worrying so much about getting an email, that’s madness in the 21^st century. That’s currently my current state. They said only the winner would be contacted, but when? When? As I sit anxiously refreshing a page that looks no different than it did this morning, I try to distract my natural instincts by listening to another case of Madness, The Stick People’s. It’s a gritty reminder of what punk was bred to be and has a few cases of a soft heart that weren’t meant for me.

This past weekend I reviewed about 10 albums, none were for the site you’re currently gazing upon. Nope, they were for some cash to live off of. We’re entering week #3 and still no real job in sight. That’s okay, gives me more time to listen to artists like Mandolyn Mae and her album Once. If Jenny Owen Youngs and Owl City ever decided to make a music baby, my guess is that they’d have a girl like Mae. She’s a singer songwriter with a heartfelt innocence and a liking for the use of upbeat tempos at times.

Weekend Review: One a Day

This week writing for pennies became a constant in my life this week. With no real job to pay the rent, it’s a necessity.

Other than writing about Superman all week, I barely had any time for my own reviews and interviews. I somehow managed to never lose a day though. Only one review got pushed to next week, so that seems like a hint of success. What else have I been up to? Saying what might be a final farewell to what was once one of my favorite bands; Fall Out Boy.

They played in LA this week and I went in with expectations low because when I fell out of love with them back in 2008, things were bad. They didn’t care (no pun intended) and the fans that surrounded them had killed any affection I ever felt for their music. Then they were back for what I still think are financial reasons, but they played The Roxy in February and I left underwhelmed. Nevertheless I bought a ticket to their next tour and questioned the decision right up until the second they started. Then “Thriller” started and thanks to Patrick being the frontman I’ve always wanted him to be, I was okay with the purchase. They put on a good show and I think it was a good way for us to end our years together. Will I see them ever again? Maybe so, but then again, I’m not bummed about missing the fall tour.

Next week I hope I’ll be going to Warped Tour. Still no tickets or talk of press passes. My fault, I was late getting my shit in, but *fingers crossed.* Also seeing 3oh!3 next week. Don’t hate, the tickets were like $7 bucks and for that price, why not?

It’s Friday morning and it’s unusual for me to be writing one of these at 11am instead of the middle of the night, but last night Fall Out Boy proved to me that they’re Patrick and Joe are the ones keeping that band afloat so I’m tired from that show, but the reviews must go on. Today I bring you Our Lady, no not Our Lady Peace. I was confused at first as well. Our Lady and their latest Dawning have proven another thing to me, indie-core is a thing and it’s an interesting twist on two polar opposite genres.

Tomorrow, or rather today, is going to be a long one. I have to be up in six hours to write about some celebrity gossip so I can save up some money to pay the student loan that got me a degree that’s gotten me nowhere but two hours from the town I grew up in. That’s a statement that’d make most people feel a certain level of rage, but I’m trying to complain less about my life because I’ve noticed how annoying it is when others do it continuously. Instead of fighting over who’s got it worse, let’s chat about The Saddest Landscape’s Exit Wounded. Now I’m sure if we went up against them in who was more pissed, they’d win. While I couldn’t make out most of the lyrics, they sounded mad enough to win an argument.

Jodi Good: Empower Your Differences

Wendy Williams has this term “friend in my head” that refers to her idea that people she doesn’t know would be her good friends if they just had the chance to meet. Basically this is the grown up version of imaginary friends. So I’d like to take this second to introduce you the most recent friend in my head, Jodi Good. We wouldn’t necessarily be friends just because she’s a heartfelt singer/songwriter from New York City who couldn’t be trusted with a map, but more so because she appreciates my favorite musical act ever and the thicker ladies of life.

Jodi’s album Definitely Different comes out at the end of the month and it already has a song that’s made my end of the year list based on one lyric that hits close to home. I’ve accepted it as a new life motto and will have a review of the rest of the record in a week or so, but for now this interview will definitely hold you over because it’s different in the way that it sounds like two pals just chatting about everything from technicalities to boy bands to NYC.
